Today's painting is what I call a "sketch painting." It doesn't have nearly enough layers of paint to be a finished product. Additionally, it seems I got to New Orleans without my white paint; I only have titan buff, which is the color of milk with a dash of coffee. I love this color for muting bright colors, but white it is not.
It looks like there is a low bank of clouds above the horizon. What I was trying, and failed, to do was capture that gorgeous transition of dark blue to purple to pink to yellow to light blue that happens as the sun fades in a cloudless sky. I like to think I will have more success when I have white paint (and more than an hour). My reference painting, originally posted on Instagram, is below.
