This painting was inspired by a stunning sunset over the Willamette River and Portland’s West Hills in the summer of 2020. At the time, I lived in a high-rise apartment and the apartment building had an incredible rooftop patio with views for days. Shortly after moving in however, the rooftop and all the other building amenities closed due to the pandemic. All the residents rejoiced when the rooftop re-opened and I loved going up there to catch the sunset.
This is a very unique painting! The foreground is painted on a separate wood panel that is mounted slightly in front of the "background" sky panel. An LED light strip is mounted between the two wood panels; turn the lights on a subtle neon-style glow will illuminate the horizon. These are super cool! Using the included remote, you can choose to have a steady light or to have the light fade between different colors.
This painting was a collaboration with my husband; he cut out out the foreground panel, installed the lights, and mounted the foreground panel to the painting.
