Pilot husband + quilter mom = ?

For the second time, I gave myself “summer break” in the studio – that is, permission and time to paint without a plan, to try something totally new.
I am over the moon about what showed up on the easel: Nine paintings inspired by photos I took while flying around in a Cessna with my husband. And, I think, by my mom’s quilts. I definitely see a nod to her hand-stitching in these paintings.
I always take a gazillion photos while flying with my husband as I am fascinated by the patterns, textures, and colors of the land – both natural and man-made. For years, these photos sat untouched as the straight-down vantage point didn’t fit my low-horizon, big-sky “signature” style.

But... anything goes during summer break!
