Columnar Basalt – 18”x24” acrylic painting

This painting is a graphic abstraction of a dramatic, stormy sky over a field of wheat. I was inspired to explore different types of brush strokes -- including making repeating, vertical lines -- by the columnar basalt that my husband and I saw on a hike in the Columbia River Gorge this summer. While the hike is totally unrelated to this scene, I find inspiration everywhere and it works its way into my art in different ways.
